No Geniuses Behind "Genius Bar"

Television pilot season is a time marked by inspiration, excitement, executive wrangling, endless advertising, and children of the corn, all of which were apparently lost on the creators of "Genius Bar."

Genius Bar, which we'll heretofore refer to as Genius Barf, is an upcoming pilot that CBS, ABC, and NBC, in their infinite wisdom, have all been fighting over. It was The Tiffany Network that ultimately won out. Poor naive bastards.

Okay, our bitter and sarcastic mood deserves some explanation. According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter (thanks MacObserver,) the series was created by some of the co-producers of That '70s Show and some marketing guru dude. Apparently:
...the project explores the interactions between people who work at a place similar to the Genius Bar at the Apple stores and the cool, hip and beautiful employees at a nearby Abercrombie & Fitch-type store.
Barfing yet? Good. Let's be clear. This show is a horrible horrible horrible thing. Ugly Mac nerds being shamed in the hipster department before counter-shaming the A&Fs by, uh, fixing their computers as condescendingly as possible? This makes us sad for even the most embarrassing of our own kind. No thanks, CBS, we'll be watching Grey's Anatomy. Seriously.

So what if we'll be checking for it on YouTube every day.

Bright computer nerds rubbing elbows with the types of Chads and Jennifers who work at a clothing store? Actually, it sounds pretty funny. I will give it a look-see.

C'mon, you can't even countenance HALF of the cast being portrayed as from the 'shallow set'? You don't see the opportunities here for funny commentary? You dudes need to widen your worldview a bit.

It might suck, but it won't be because they DARED to allow the pristine world of Mac propeller heads to come into contact with Melrose Place types. Both types of people exist and both are ripe for lampooning.

You need to get out more.

Whoa whoa whoa, someone name-checking Melrose Place is saying we need to get out more?

Yes- but the point u r missing is that nerds are now cool- what with all those techno-clueless iPod owners wondering what "rebooting" their iPods could possibly mean...

Is it actually possible that someone could be this much of a clueless idiot?

Just because a show is "set" in something "similar" to the Apple Store, doesn't mean that all they will be doing is fixing computers.

I think the creators were trying to find a way to tell a modern-day story of Romeo and Juliet, or Beauty and The Geek.

I'm a mac nerd, and I'm so notugly :) If the show's idea screws with your own insecurities, that's too bad. I think its all going to come down to the characters. I'm very curious!
